SPONSORSHIP

JAGWAR Order members who identify Judge Advocates, legal administrators, and paralegals seeking to develop their Soldier skills are encouraged to serve as “Sponsors”, responsible for both interesting colleagues in the Order's mission and then facilitating their applications to join.

************************************************

1. When an existing member of the Order identifies a Judge Advocate, legal administrator, or paralegal committed to excelling in both arenas of the dual-profession, the Sponsor assists the “Candidate” in meeting all Order eligibility requirements, and proctors the "Triple-R" Induction Challenge. Candidates must sign and submit a Liability Waiver prior to undertaking the Challenge!

  • Sponsors are HIGHLY encouraged to secure an additional JAGWAR member to serve as a “Pacer” alongside Candidates throughout the Induction Challenge. Sponsors are also encouraged to assist in Candidates’ fulfillment of any other membership-qualifying tasks.

  • In preparing for the Triple-R Challenge, Sponsors serve (or delegate someone to serve) as “On-Site Event Coordinators” (OSECs) who identify the run/ruck routes, secure the necessary equipment/personnel, and submit the JAGWAR’s template Risk Assessment (DA Form 2977) to the installation’s Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (OSJA). OSJAs are partners in administering the Triple-R Challenge!

  • When completing the DA Form 2977, OSECs will add the requisite administrative and unit data. They will also have to tailor the Risk Assessment to accommodate the specifics of the particular “Triple-R Challenge” (e.g., rope climbs conducted in a gym might require floor mats, while rope climbs conducted in a PT pit may already be equipped with softer surfaces). OSECs must evaluate hazards unique to their installations.

  • Proctors should secure chem lights or cones to mark turnaround points along the routes. They should also secure a hanging digital scale to weigh ruck sacks prior to beginning the march. Proctors must ensure that there are bottles of water at the turnaround or midway points of the routes, and that all participants have their own water supply during the ruck march. Be sure to have a first aid kit on hand!

2. As required, the Proctor may also be responsible for submitting to the servicing OSJA the JAGWAR’s Application—as a Non-Federal Entity (NFE) and Private Organization (PO)—to obtain approval to conduct its activities on-Post in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 210-22. Review the “Guidance for Challenge Proctors” section on the Induction Challenge page for more information.

3. The Sponsor/Proctor assists the Candidate in preparing and submitting his/her membership application to the Order of the JAGWAR.

4. Once the application has been approved, the Sponsor awards the Candidate—now an “Inductee”—the JAGWAR coin (often presented at the finish line of the “Triple-R Induction Challenge”) and a Certificate of Membership.

5. Inductees are announced and introduced at the annual Order of the JAGWAR Dining In banquet, at which time they are formally added to the Order’s Role of Members.

Guidance to SPONSORS
Before working with interested Candidates, please familiarize yourself with the regulations and policies governing solicitation of membership on behalf of the JAGWAR:

  • AR 600-20 para. 4-11 prohibits "any practice that involves or implies DA sponsorship or endorsement of the organization and its activities." Nonetheless, para. 4-11 expressly notes that the Army “recognizes and benefits from the activities of many worthy organizations, associations, and clubs” and thus “does not prohibit commanders from informing personnel without coercion about membership in such organizations.”

  • This JAGWAR Information Paper details restrictions on JAGWAR members and on membership, and summarizes the regulatory guidelines governing participation by Active Duty officers in the activities of private associations.
